Support James Island Outreach on Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2023

Giving Tuesday is "a global generosity movement...that encourages people to do good."

James Island Outreach (JIO) uplifts and unites the James Island community in the by helping neighbors with basic and emergency needs. The core values of compassion, respect, integrity and community are shared by over 200 volunteers and a small staff.
On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to consider a gift to James Island Outreach, which directly supports the following programs:
Client Choice Food Pantry & Emergency Food Distribution -The client-choice wellness food pantry is set up like a neighborhood market. Guests shop for variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, bakery items, dairy products, and non-perishables. It empowers neighbors to make choices based on household nutritional needs and personal preference. The average household is provided with approximately 75 pounds of food depending on household size. Guests may shop once a month on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, or drive through pick up on Saturday morning. In addition, all registered guests may pick up emergency food every Saturday morning. No one goes away hungry!
Emergency Financial Assistance and Financial Workshop - Neighbors at risk of utility termination, eviction, or foreclosure may seek assistance at JIO with past-due expenses in an effort to prevent further disruption in their lives. $3,000 is expended monthly directly to vendors on behalf of neighbors at risk. JIO is now also offering financial workshops to help clients improve their ability to balance income and expenses and expose them to available programs to improve their financial situation.
Home Accessibility and Repairs Team (HART) - JIO recognizes that maintaining a safe and healthy home environment is critical for the well-being of our neighbors. Securing the necessary resources for home repairs is difficult, if not impossible for many, especially those on fixed incomes. HART volunteers help navigate home repairs such as unstable flooring, leaking roofs, bathroom accessibility and wheel-chair ramps.
